(July 29, 2016) – The 2016 Kids Crown Award winners are in and the City of Sunny Isles Beach has received a Miami-Dade: Best Beach Award. The balloting results were released by South Florida Parenting and Forum Publishing Group, a Tribune Company.
Almost one million vacationers visit Sunny Isles Beach annually to enjoy relaxing on the 2.5 mile-long white sand beach and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. Families can also participate in water sports, boating and fishing. The landmark fishing pier is a favorite destination for both fishermen and diners. Neighboring communities offer additional excursion opportunities including shopping, dining, sporting events and other entertainment.
This beautiful beach, popular with families worldwide, is guarded seven days a week by SIB Ocean Rescue, a division of SIB Police Department. Boards posted at each lifeguard stand alert beachgoers to the daily beach conditions. Patrons may also check for the information at misorecipes.com/current-beach-conditions or call the beach hotline at 305.792.1940. Swimmers can view the flags flying each day which indicate calm or rough surf. The temperature of the water, the air and the presence of dangerous marine life (if applicable) is also listed. To help sunbathers gauge how fast their skin could burn, the UV index is updated daily. A lightning alert system is also in place for the entire City and forewarns beachgoers when a lighting strike is imminent. Lifeguards must clear the beach in the event of one long blast of the horn. Three short blasts mean all is clear. The men and women of SIB Ocean Rescue educate patrons about safety rules, help those in need and are vigilant in preventing accidents. That helps make the Best Beach also the safest beach!
